Here is a video I made where Ferg shows us his first few surfs on his new Tonn Surfboard.
I had a few surfs on this board & it goes great, it feels very similar to a regular PU board but its made of wood, which is mad!
Board dimensions - 5"9 x 19"3/8 x 2"3/8
Board weight - 2.9 kg !!!
Board design - Magic Bean by Luke Underwood Creations
The Boards are made in Ireland by Jean Philippe Hetier owner of Tonn Surfboards
Ireland's Deep Atlantic is a 2 part series for RTÉ 1 by Film maker Ken O’Sullivan , starting Sunday 22nd of April at 9.30pm.
It is an amazing project, I was lucky to be involved for the last 2 years supplying the Drone footage & shooting some interviews & a few underwater bits.
The footage that Ken filmed underwater in the deep atlantic is unbelievable, its the most amazing underwater footage to come out of Ireland in my option.
Flying a drone off the boat was a bit challenging at times, but great craic.
I recommend giving it a watch it on the RTÉ player or live on tv if you can, the underwater footage is spectacular .
The series explores the beauty of Ireland's Atlantic waters, for the first time in any TV production. I was lucky to be part of the filming team involved with this series over the last 2 years and it was a privilege to work along side Ken & witness the lengths he went to capture this amazing footage . The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with some of programme's key personnel.
Presented by Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) in association with Sea Fever Productions and the Irish Underwater Council (CFT) .
The Irish surf film 'Between Land and Sea' directed by Ross Whitaker is doing a tour of Australia .
I was Director of Surf photography on this film, my role was to the Aerial & Water filming as well as some land filming though out the whole year of the project.
Here is a link to the paces it will be screening

Between Land and Sea, spends a year in Lahinch, a small town on Ireland’s west coast, and the unlikely home of one of Europe’s best big-wave breaks.
This observational feature – at times intimate, at times epic – embeds itself within Lahinch’s surfing community to present a thoroughly engaging and visually stunning portrait of the ever-changing life at land’s end.
Against the backdrop of Ireland’s stunning west coast, this film digs deep into the day-to-day lives of the people who live and surf here, taking the audience beyond the bluster of the typical adrenaline-fueled surf film to create an intimate portrait of the diehard group of surfers who want their local wave to be known around the world.
Featuring Ollie O’Flaherty, the current poster-boy of Irish surfing, former pro Fergal Smith, Aussie surf journalist Ben Mondy and a thrilling visit to Lahinch by Hawaiian legend Shane Dorian, Between Land and Sea provides the most exhilarating of big-wave surf footage while also giving a moving, humourous and thought-provoking account of the ocean-going natives of County Clare.
While waiting for our ferry onto an offshore island in northern Norway up in the Arctic we were greeted by the most amazing northern lights display I have ever seen. It was only a few hours into day one of our trip & already I was blown away with this amazing country. #northernlights #arcticcircle #sky #norway #waitingforferry #xt20 #peir #shed #mountians #streetlight #sea #ocean

We had great fun filming at the fifth annual Doolin Folk Festival takes place from the 16th-18th June. I had a great team this year helping me film the 3 days, it was an all mayo team this year with Conal, Tommy & Dara on the cameras. Below are the three live acts we filmed as well as a short summary video, hopefully it gives you a taste of the festival!
Here's a few pics from Halal Daddy Irish premier in Sligo. Directed by Conor McDermottroe .
The film is shot on location in Sligo. I was delighted to contribute some surf footage to the film. Described as a “cultural clash comedy”, the film stars Colm Meaney and Art Malik, Deirdre O’Kane and Nikesh Patel. It goes on general release in Irish cinemas on Friday , it has a great story & I highly recommend it

'Mistakes Made ... Are Lessons Learnt' is a short film by Peter Conroy & myself introducing you to how the Irish tow surf rescue club was established.
Words by Peter Conroy
The Irish tow surf rescue club was set up nearly 10 years ago to highlight the need for qualified and experienced jetski drivers.
Our aim is to train and share our experiences that we have learnt over the years of tow surfing and surfing.
We aim to make our sport of surfing safer by also putting life saving equipment in spots that are hard to access and work closely with the coast guard and helicopter service for fast and effective rescues.
We have about 30 members paid up this year and always are glad for more. So please get in contact through the club page or by contacting Peter Conroy direct at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks again to everyone that helped make this clip possible.
